First it was Bob Hayes, next Nate Newton, now Markquese Bell. They all went from wearing the Orange and Green of the FAMU Rattlers to the Dallas Cowboys. Bell is one of many HBCU players trying to make an NFL roster as an undrafted free agent.

“I know I am the only guy from an HBCU on this team,” Bell said. “That is attached to me. I want to make people respect HBCU dudes and stop overlooking us and thinking we are lower ranked and lower competition.”

Bell measured in at perfect safety size at 6'2" 212lbs but surprised everyone at the NFL Combine when he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.41 seconds.

“I shocked them a little bit with that 4.41,” Bell said. “No one expected that. I wanted to show them I could run as well as hit. Put both of those together and you got a mean

 combination.”

Even though he went undrafted, Bell has shown at Dallas Cowboys that he should have definitely been drafted. The Cowboys coaches have been extremely impressed with him so far and looks like a sure thing to make the Cowboys roster. Bell will not just be playing on defense but as usual undrafted free agents usually have to participate on special teams.

I've been following Bell since I saw him in high school at Under Armour All-American Week. When he signed with FAMU out of Coffeyville CC, I was happy that my alma mater got his services. In 2021, he helped lead the Rattlers to a 9-3 record and was named 1st Team All-SWAC. Since he's a fellow FAMU alum, I'll definitely be keeping an eye on how he does this preseason
